A friend recently came across a photograph on Instagram of one of my first Herbie Birdies. I don't do social media as of late and have never done Instagram, but seeing that little birdie from only a few years ago, got me thinking about their development. Just like Darwin's finches, my microevolutionary birdies have slightly evolved over a short period of time. Unlike Darwin's finches, there is clear evidence as to how my birdies came into being. Not only the actual birdies themselves, but also there is clear improvement in the composition and quality of the photographs.
Above is clear evidence on how both bird and photo have evolved into something that looks as good digitally as it does in real life. Other than the obvious improvements in the design and shape, the final photograph shows accurate colours and has an air of professionalism with the depth of focus blurring the birdie in the background. From the rest of the photographs below it is obvious which are the original birdies and which are the current ones.
I have mentioned Darwin as it has been a dominant topic in my resent research. For a very long time I have been interested in pre-history which is roughly the era before 4000 BCE, specifically that of the Middle East and Siberia. I have started buying very old and rare books so that my interests and research are not marred by inaccurate current thought. Darwinism is a perfect example. I have doubted the theory that evolution is based on random mutations and natural selection, which is all hot topics on alternative 'origins' websites at the mo. Anyone with half an ounce of rationalism, given the true facts that countless scientists agree on, would conclude it's just not a viable theory.
"The mathematical probability that the precisely designed molecules needed for the 'simplest' bacteria could form by chance arrangement of amino acids (these are the chemicals that link up to form proteins) is far less than 1 in 10 to the power of 450. Most scientists acknowledge that any possibility less than one in 1 in 10 to the power of 50 is considered an impossibility.
A Closer Look At The Evidence (Kleiss 2005)
Put another way, the chance of Darwin's theory being accurate, is like a blind man walking the Earth and finding the right grain of sand that could restore his sight (Kleiss2005)! What did make me chuckle over the quote above is that it is actually from a book written to prove god exists, which funnily links into my other research interests in the theory of Intelligent Design. Whilst this theory is a belief of most religious folks, that god made the Earth etc, there is a lot of evidence to suggest actual beings in the clouds did create life on Earth. Read any religious text and replace the word 'god' with 'astronaut'!
I recently read Eden in the Altai: The Prehistoric Golden Age and the Mythic Origins of Humanity (Ashe 2019) which has put me on a path of real discovery. I then went on to read Nicholas Roerich's diaries from the 1920's. He was an American painter who went on expeditions to the Himalayas and he noted the extent of a Russian influence throughout art and language in Tibet. Several books later of the same ilk has got me reading Leonard Cottrell's' The Anvil of Civilization (1957) which is a delightful read, looking at the development of the first cities from Iran down to Egypt. My next reads are Hamlets Mill; An Essay Investigating the Origins of Human Knowledge and Its Transmission Through Myth (1969) by Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha von Dechend and The Signature Of All Living Things (Boehme 1621). As you can see, the books are getting older and older but how fabulous would it be if a little snippet from 1621 linked to an observation from 1920's!
For someone who believes in The Law of Attraction, who believes that there are more truths in myths than you might think and has a distain for tenured university positions, it's really enlightening to think there is a possibility that as more and more people realise a lot of information is supressed, that where we come from is not as we have been told and as more people move away from social media to ascertain their own information, there is a chance in my lifetime that the truth about evolution will be ammended.
A lot of my Stuff is inspired by very old architecture, colour palettes and shapes, (along with the closer-to-home Lincolnshire Fens) but how exciting it would be to create new works with a whole new concept of what or who we are. I find it hard to believe that in the 4 billion years the earth has been in existence that there hasn't been previous, more advanced civilizations on this planet. Our current civilization has only been about for 15,000 years, so it is quite feasible that there could have been civilized life on Earth a million years ago. What if the first upright apes (as the general narrative tells us) 200.000 years ago were actually mutations from a previous intelligent civilization!?!
The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing Socrates (470-399 BCE)
So as my Herbie Birdies evolve, as Darwin's theory of evolution evolves into something else and my understanding of who we are evolves from little hidden niches of literature, it is exciting to think about what I will be making in years to come. I split my time equally with my making, the garden and reading, but I have to be honest right now, the reading and new knowledge gained is far more exciting than Herbie Birdies and Herbaceous borders.
