I have just started making these mini woollen bobble hat Christmas tree decorations, and I had more photos to share than Etsy would allow, so here is a visual look at all the mini woollen hats on offer. I absolutely love making these, as the creative possibilities are endless, and each hat is completely unique. They are more expensive than others on Etsy, but these hats are extremely substantial, made from robust postal tubes with a pretty pom pom inside to fill them out. The jingle bell is a genius idea (I know it's wrong to praise oneself but it is brilliant), as it turns the little hats into real magic with a secret jingle, making the hats not dissimilar in shape to traditional Christmas bells. These woollen hats would look great on a tall tree, so that the pom inside can be appreciated. The perfect decoration for a big Christmas tree.
Many years ago I started making these hats but decided to not bother when I saw how many people were already making them. This October, my sister-in-law asked if I could make her
mini bobble hat decorations. I sent her this photo of Stella wearing one of my first hats and very quickly found myself making hats for everyone. I loved making them so much, everybody is getting them this year.
I have had terrible trouble getting jingle bells, as not only has the post been shocking (to be expected this time of year, so fair enough!), but the Ebay sellers have been unworthy. It would have been quicker and cheaper to directly buy from China through Wish. I wanted a specific bronze-coloured bell to be in keeping with the rustic, vintage colour palettes I have gone for, and persistence paid off when, after two failed eBay attempts, I eventually found the right size and colour bell on Amazon.
I was fortunate enough to have lots of candy cane cotton with the exception of pink, brown and grey, so instead I used 1mm jute twine to make 3 inch hanging loops attached to the pom poms.
Candy Cane Red and Green
This is the first set of woollen bobble hats I was asked to make, in bright, traditional Christmas colours. I quickly realised that because I have so many different shades of wool, I was able to offer something in a way nobody else is. I decided to develop the hats into a very posh version of what is already available.
Choose from candy cane red or green, or a mix of the two.
Vintage red and green
I decided to develop the hats further, making them even more unique. I chose a soft beige and a very light soft grey instead of the traditional white and also chose more rustic colours to offer a truly vintage, dusty, dusky sort of look.
Choose from vintage red or green, or a mix of both
Vintage smokey blue
Vintage dusky purple
Vintage dusty pink
Caramel fudge
Vintage Winters day grey
The listing also offers the option to choose your own colours, I have them all.
